PP 8623 - Correctional Psychology


This course covers topics important to the pursuit of a career as a psychologist in corrections and related fields. This course is primarily focused on the provision of mental health services to individuals convicted of crime. Students will be introduced to different careers in the justice system, the understanding of the criminal mind, including the understanding of antisocial personality disorder and psychopathy. Special populations will be explored, including introduction to gangs, sex offenders, and juvenile offenders.  There will be special focus on understanding issues related to the victims of violent crime. Finally, related careers, including Police and Public Safety Psychologist, will be explored. (3 credit hours)
