PY 7011L - Health Promotion, Wellness, and Stress Management

This course explores the professional roles and interventions of psychologists in promoting health, wellness, and stress management within a biopsychosocial framework. Students will examine the impact of lifestyle behaviors, substance use, diet, and exercise on physical and mental health, as well as evidence-based strategies for primary prevention, behavior change, and holistic well-being. Emphasis will be placed on understanding stress, coping mechanisms, and relaxation-based interventions, including mindfulness, guided imagery, progressive muscle relaxation, and biofeedback, with applications across diverse populations and clinical settings. Through experiential learning and clinical application, students will develop the skills necessary to integrate health promotion, behavioral medicine, and stress reduction techniques into psychological practice.  (3 credit hours)
