PY 7008L - Cognitive Rehabilitation: Adult and Pediatric


Cognitive Rehabilitation: Pediatric and Adult explores historical and contemporary clinical and research issues in the rehabilitation of neurological disorders and cognitive dysfunction across the lifespan. Students will examine evidence-based assessment and treatment approaches for cognitive and behavioral impairments in both adult and pediatric populations, with a focus on conditions such as traumatic brain injury, cerebrovascular disease, mild cognitive impairment, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Emphasis will be placed on rehabilitating cognitive functions including orientation, attention, learning, memory, and executive functioning, while considering developmental differences, brain plasticity, and adaptive interventions. Additional topics include interdisciplinary collaboration, ethical considerations, cultural influences on rehabilitation and assessment, and the integration of assistive technology to enhance cognitive recovery and functional outcomes.  (3 credit hours)
