PY 7006L - Childhood Trauma and Resilience: Assessment, Treatment, and Recovery

Childhood Trauma and Resilience: Assessment, Treatment, and Recovery explores the impact of trauma on children and adolescents, emphasizing evidence-based approaches to assessment, intervention, and healing. This course examines the neurobiological, psychological, and social effects of trauma, including abuse, neglect, loss, and exposure to violence. Students will learn to conduct trauma-informed assessments, differentiate trauma-related disorders from other clinical presentations, and apply developmentally appropriate treatment strategies. Emphasis is placed on resilience-building techniques, cultural considerations, and the role of caregivers and support systems in the recovery process. Through case studies and experiential learning, students will develop advanced skills in providing trauma-sensitive care across diverse clinical and community settings.  (3 credit hours)
