PY 7003L - Advanced Intervention: Systems

This course provides an advanced exploration of systems-based interventions, integrating foundational theories of family and couples therapy with broader applications to complex relational and organizational systems. Students will critically examine major systemic models, including Bowenian, Structural, Strategic, Narrative, Emotionally Focused, and Cognitive-Behavioral approaches, while refining their ability to assess and intervene in dysfunctional patterns across various relational contexts. Emphasis will be placed on intergenerational influences, communication dynamics, power structures, and cultural considerations, as well as ethical challenges in systemic work. Through case studies, experiential exercises, and personal reflection on family-of-origin influences, students will deepen their capacity to engage in effective, culturally responsive interventions that promote resilience and change within diverse relational systems.  (3 credit hours)
