PY 7001L - Advanced Intervention: Cognitive-Behavioral

This course provides an in-depth exploration of third-wave cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT), focusing on contemporary models that integrate mindfulness, acceptance, and contextual behavioral science principles into treatment. Students will examine the theoretical foundations and empirical support for Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP). The course emphasizes case conceptualization, intervention planning, and advanced therapeutic techniques, including mindfulness-based interventions, cognitive diffusion, values-based action, emotion regulation strategies, and behavior modification approaches. Through experiential learning, case studies, and applied practice, students will develop proficiency in third-wave CBT techniques and learn to adapt these interventions for diverse clinical populations and presenting concerns.  (3 credit hours)
