PY 5027L - Psychopathology: Child and Adolescent

Psychopathology: Child and Adolescent provides a comprehensive examination of the assessment, diagnosis, and classification of psychological disorders in children and adolescents, as outlined in the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). This course explores the etiology and developmental trajectories of various disorders through a biopsychosocial lens, considering genetic, neurobiological, environmental, and sociocultural influences. Students will learn to differentiate typical from atypical development, recognize key diagnostic features, and apply evidence-based assessment strategies for a range of emotional, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Emphasis is placed on developmental considerations, risk and protective factors, differential diagnosis, and the impact of family, school, and peer systems, preparing students to conduct clinical evaluations and formulate effective treatment plans in diverse settings.  (2 credit hours)
