PY 417 - Professional Development Group I

The Professional Development Group is a two-course series (fall and spring semester) in which students are introduced to the professional practice of clinical psychology. Students are oriented to the relevant policies and procedures of the Chicago School and the Clinical PsyD program, clinical training structure of the program (APP) and APA ethical and practice guidelines. Students review the core competencies and skills of the profession, and the manner in which the program comprehensively evaluates student progress. Students are introduced to the habits and skills of self-evaluation, reflective practice and self-care. Successful completion of this course requires demonstration of engagement with a community-based service or experiential learning opportunity, passing performance on either The Chicago School Writing Assessment Program proficiency exam or in the Academic Writing Program course, and completion of the Academic Focus Program.
