IN 551 - Crisis Response - Trauma and Crisis Intervention


This course explores relevant theories in current evidence-based research, Western and non-Western practices related to the contribution of various types of trauma originated by man-made and environmental causes. Particular consideration will be paid to the multiple forms of trauma and crisis commonly identified in vulnerable, underserved and at risk populations. Throughout the course work, students will develop a substantial understanding of how trauma and psychopathologies are socially and culturally constructed in diverse cultures exploring unique aspects of working with individuals and proposing ethical and culturally competent interventions to assist populations that have experienced trauma around the world. (3 credits)
