PY 417 - Professional Development Group I

The Professional Development Group is a two-course series (fall and spring semester) in which students are introduced to the professional practice of clinical psychology. Students are orientated to the relevant policies and procedures of the Chicago School and the Clinical PsyD program–including applied professional practices-as well as APA ethical guidelines. Students review the core competencies and skills of the profession and the manner in which the program comprehensively evaluates student progress. Students are introduced to the habits and skills of self-evaluation, reflection and self-care. Successful completion of this course requires passing performance in a community-based service or experiential learning opportunity, passing performance on either The Chicago School Writing Assessment Program proficiency exam or in the Academic Writing Program course, and completion of the Academic Focus Program.
