PP 551 - Research Methods 1: Research Design and Proposal Development This course is designed to teach students basic research philosophies, methodologies, and technologies at both the conceptual and applied levels. Emphasis will be placed on learning to choose the appropriate research topic, conducting and writing a literature review, and the appropriate methodological approach for a given research question. Topics covered include qualitative and quantitative methodologies, methodological relationship to research questions, mindmapping research topics, developing a coherent literature search strategy, and writing a literature review. Students will also examine the structural elements of a dissertation, begin developing a dissertation plan, and form their dissertation committee to carry out that plan. In addition, students will initiate the process of developing a dissertation research proposal through the process of writing a rough draft of their proposal literature review which will ultimately lead to their doctoral dissertation.
