PY 466X - Basic Intervention: Existential-Humanistic

In this course, students will learn the theory and evidence-based practice of psychotherapeutic techniques in the Existential-Humanistic tradition. The application of these perspectives to assessment, case formulation, treatment planning, and therapy process will be explored. Students will have the opportunity to develop competence at evidence-based interventions including Motivational Interviewing. A variety of additional Existential-Humanistic techniques such as emotion focused therapy, mindfulness and present-centered awareness, focusing; and hot-seat/empty-chair, and psycho-dramatic/role play techniques will be explored. Empirical evidence for the efficacy of these techniques will be explored.  In keeping with foundational principles of the Existential-Humanistic tradition, students will be encouraged to explore professional and personal relevance of conceptualizations and interventions.
