CC 510 - Psychopathology and Introduction to Psychopharmacology

This course addresses the general principles of etiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental and emotional disorders. Major definitions and descriptions of psychological phenomena as categorized and classified by the DSM-5 are addressed. Given the recent revision to this text, the course will also highlight relevant changes in organization, classification, and content of the current diagnostic system.  The classification of disorders is aligned with the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Diseases (ICD).  This course includes models of mental status assessment as well as the application of how cultural factors influence mental health. This course also surveys the psychopharmacological agents used in the treatment of the major psychiatric disorders. (3 credit hours)
