PY 532 - Conultee-Centered Process Consultation

This course will provide an introduction to Consultee-Centered Process Consultation as it can be conducted by Clinical Psychologists with community organizations. It will introduce students to consultation theory and practice (as distinguished from clinical practice), especially as it applies to helping to improve the quality of professional services in schools and community organizations. This summary course will introduce students to five consultation theories: 1). Organizational, 2). Psychodynamic, 3). Constructivist Learning, 4). Diffusion of Innovations, and 5). Social Learning. Recorded consultation sessions will be used to illustrate the application of the various theories in consultation relationships and students will have the opportunity to shadow consultants in the field. The objective is to gain knowledge of consultation theory and develop the skill to apply that knowledge in the establishment and maintenance of productive consultation relationships. Upon completion, the student will understand a variety of consultation theories and will have developed a beginning competency in the application of those theories in process consultation relationships.
