PP 551 - Research Methods 1: Research Design and Proposal Development
This course is designed to teach students basic statistical techniques at both the conceptual and applied levels. Emphasis will be placed on learning to choose the appropriate statistical technique for a given research question, computation of statistics, and the interpretation of statistics with reference to research hypotheses. Topics covered include central tendency (e.g., mean, median), variance (e.g., standard deviation), z-scores and the normal curve, hypothesis testing, t-tests, correlation, simple regression, analysis of variance, power analytic, and nonparametric techniques (e.g., Chi-Square). In addition, students will initiate the process of developing a research proposal which will lead to their doctoral dissertation. Students will examine the structural elements of a dissertation, conducting a literature search, and evaluating different types of research design and assessment measures. (3 credits)
